Activities to do on Your Ownby Charmaine Ferrer |
There are some days where you want to do something on your own, by yourself. An activity or hobby to call your own. Working and living at home sometimes makes it feel like you don’t have any time for yourself to just take a breath or relax. It is important to take some time for yourself and engaging in a solo activity may just be the thing you need. Here are a few activities to do on your own, in hopes that you’ll find that it makes you happy. Journaling
Writing down your thoughts and feelings is a great way to release stress and allows you to unload any burdens you might be carrying. Journaling is also a good way to express your views on things that are important to you or have an opinion on. Documenting an occasion or special event in your life in your journal helps you relive the memories when you go back to reading it years later. Spend ten to fifteen minutes of your day, in a quiet spot in your house to write. Sending Cards to Loved Ones
Remember when we received birthday cards in the mail? Technology and the fast paced world we live in has changed how we greet one another when it comes to special occasions – a quick text Happy Birthday with a cake emoji is how we send our greetings. As informal as they have become, we are still happy when we receive a text message, as you were thought of. Why not mail a card to your friends and family? You can purchase inexpensive cards with a message or a personal note saying you are thinking of that person and hope they’re well. It doesn’t have to be a holiday or birthday when sending a card. I’m sure that the person that receives that special piece of mail will truly be touched. Photo Album
Not trying to knock down technology, but the common photo print is becoming a rare sight as photo print shops are going out of business because people aren’t printing their photos. Their photo albums are located on their phones – all you need to do is swipe to the next image. Putting a photo album together seems more sentimental and there is something about printed photos and collecting them for the album that is nostalgic, with each photo having a story or memory. Painting
It’s ok if you’re not Picasso or Monet, but painting can be relaxing and stress relieving. Just like paint nights that were offered before the pandemic, there are online classes that you can sign up for that will take you step by step in painting that beautiful landscape. Materials such as the canvas and paint can be purchased at any crafts store or online. Once you’ve created your artistic masterpiece, you can hang it on your wall and marvel at your work! Coloring
A few years ago, adult coloring books were all the rage and became a phenomenon. Coloring books for adults had intricate patterns and lively designs that made coloring fun again. If you don’t want to paint, then color instead. An assortment of colored pencils and gel pens allows you to get into the detail of the page you’re coloring. Coloring is calming and another way to de-stress because it makes you feel like you’re a kid again – something about the repetitive motion that’s relaxing. And it’s ok, you don’t have to color between the lines. There’s plenty more activities and hobbies you can do on your own, these are just a few that I’ve tried and found to be cathartic and something I can call my own. What kinds of activities do you like to do on your own that you enjoy?
