Spring Home Design Trends 2021by Charmaine Ferrer |
Last Spring, many of us were stuck at home or working from home or learning from home due to the pandemic. This inspired and motivated a lot of folks to redecorate and renovate their living spaces. Whether it be outdoors or indoors, everyone took to the local DIY home stores to make their home the one they’ve always wanted. Spring is just around the corner, and many of us are still relegated to the four walls we call home. As we are limited to travel and vacations, our home has become our retreat, our getaway, our staycation. To make it cozier, here are a few design trends worth checking out. Illuminating Yellow and Ultimate Gray
Pantone selected these two hues as colors of the year for 2021. According to the Pantone website, the “two independent colors highlight how different elements come together to support one another.” The two colors together represent warmth, optimism, “strength and positivity”. In essence, it’s about having hope “that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit”. Choose home décor that evoke brightness and strength as the two colors represent, whether it be a rug, throw pillows or even a comforter set. These two colors together will make your living space bright and cheery. Old never goes out of style. The vintage style trend of home décor always seems to come around every now and then and for this year, seems to be the trend again for this year. Vintage is about a lot of decorative elements, according to bestdesignideas.com, such as mirror frames, fabrics, dishes with patterns and ornate designs, etc. For furniture, seek out pieces that are made out of wood and look worn, creating a lived-in look. If you don’t want to recreate the entire room in a vintage design, consider a sparkly chandelier, to complement the style of your current space. Houseplants are a great way to add décor that’s simple and also benefits you and your loved ones because they purify the air. A good friend of mine recently gifted two plants that are perfect for my new home, the peace lily and pathos, which are green and currently thriving. I do not have a green thumb, but she guaranteed me that I wouldn’t be able to kill them, and so far, so good. One plant is called pothos, that has teardrop shaped leaves. It acts as a sponge for formaldehyde and carbon monoxide. The other plant is the peace lily, that sprouts a beautiful white leaf that looks like a flower before it turns green. The peace lily absorbs ammonia, which is commonly found in house cleaning products. The plants add another texture to your space, at the same time cleaning the air indoors. Forget shabby chic. Why not try the granny chic home design trend for 2021? If you want to be reminded of visits to grandpa and grandma’s house, incorporate this style for your indoor space. From insider.com, Heather Goerzen, an interior designer described the rising "grandmillennial" trend as a modern revival of homey design elements that you might find in your grandparents' home. Floral wallpaper, old family photos and frames, fancy china, and knitted blankets and doilies are just a few of the touches to inspire granny chic. The interior designer states that “the style is meant to evoke comfort, nostalgia, and tradition.” Take a look at: Round Two-Tiered Resin and Wood Display Stand – Model 6289 French Floral Designed Metal Container with Swing Handle – Model 7616 As we’re still going to be staying home a little bit longer, why not take a chance and adopt one of the designs mentioned in this blog.
